Bert Vandenbussche

For the past 15 years, I have been teaching people in a wide range of leadership positions — from foreman to CEO — with a strong focus on self-awareness, team dynamics and overcoming difficulties. I gained important experience at „Insead“ (in France, Singapore and the United Arab Emirates), „Outward Bound“ and „Vlerick Business School“ (both in Belgium).

In addition, I have advised leadership teams on organisational culture and change in both the business and non-profit sectors. I have experience leading both small groups (for example, REFLECT — a European project involving eight organisations from four countries, adventure therapy projects at „Outward Bound Belgium“, and the teaching team at LUCA) and larger groups (as coordinator of the Visual Arts Department at LUCA School of Arts).

In my view, the essence of leadership is the ability to bring people together around a common goal in such a way that they begin to organise their work as effectively as possible. What matters most is leading by listening carefully and engaging in dialogue, while control of tasks and results is secondary.

“Take care of the process and the result will take care of itself” was a core principle of American football coach Bill Walsh, who consistently focused on the structure and processes of his teams. In a similar way, as a leader, instructor and consultant, I devote a great deal of attention to structure and processes so that I can help shape people’s relationships and conversations in the work context.
